Recommended Care Instructions:
1. General Cleaning:
· Avoid Over-washing: Spot clean minor marks whenever possible to prolong the life of the textile.
· Washing Method (Use Sparingly):
o Hand Washing is Safest: Fill a sink or tub with cold water. Add a small amount of mild, pH-neutral detergent (one labeled for delicates, baby clothes, or linen) that is free of dyes, scents, and, crucially, Optical Brightening Agents (OBAs).
o Gently submerge the dolly and let it soak for about 10 minutes.
o Carefully swish the textile without twisting, wringing, or scrubbing.
o Rinse thoroughly with cold water until all soap residue is gone.
o Alternatively, if machine washing, use a gentle/delicate cycle with cold water and a mild, OBA-free detergent. Place the dolly in a mesh laundry bag for extra protection.
· Color Setting: For the very first wash, some sources recommend adding a small amount of white vinegar to the cold rinse water to help set the colors, though this is sometimes more effective for initial processing.
· Avoid Harsh Chemicals: NEVER use chlorine bleach or detergents containing bleach/whiteners. These can damage the linen fibers and alter the hand-dyed colors, even causing yellowing on natural fibers.
2. Drying:
· Air Dry is Best: The safest and preferred method is to air dry. Lay the textile flat on a clean, absorbent towel or hang it from the corners to dry naturally.
· Avoid the Dryer: Do not tumble dry, especially on high heat, as this can cause shrinkage and set wrinkles or stains. If necessary, use the lowest heat setting and remove the item while it is still slightly damp.
· Keep Out of Direct Sunlight: Dry it indoors or in the shade, away from direct sunlight, to prevent the hand-printed colors from fading.
3. Ironing/Pressing:
· Iron While Damp: Linen and linen-cotton blend fabrics iron best while they are still slightly damp.
· Use Medium Heat: Set the iron to a medium/cotton setting.
· Iron on Reverse: To protect the print, always iron the dolly from the reverse side (the non-printed side).
· Use Steam: If the textile is dry, use the steam setting on your iron to dampen it before pressing.
4. Stain Removal:
· Act Fast: Treat stains immediately before they set.
· Spot Clean: Gently spot-treat the stained area with a small amount of mild dish soap (like Dawn) and cold water. Do not rub harshly.
· No High Heat: Avoid applying high heat (from a dryer or iron) to a stain, as this can permanently set it. Ensure the stain is completely removed before drying.
5. Storage and Display:
· Framing: If used as framed wall art, ensure the material it is mounted on is acid-free to prevent deterioration and yellowing over time. Keep it out of direct sunlight to prevent UV fading.
· Avoid Bleeding Surfaces: When air-drying or storing, avoid placing the damp fabric directly on wood or painted surfaces, as the dyes may transfer (bleed).
